Newbie & Vet Results

The first annual Newbie & Vet tournament run by NMVBUG was a tremendous success, even mother-nature helped...a warm day with slight breeze was perfect day for volleyball. The newbies felt welcome and really stepped up their game. The vets were all very accommodating and helped the newbies improve their game. The random draw in each round was a great way to mix and match players. It was a little tricky to start, even with all the preparation, with a few cancellations and a few additions...we had to quickly make some changes--and it was not as fast as we had hoped, but we made up time with the rest of the tournament running smoothly with the assistance of some great friends. 16 men and 14 women seemed to be the perfect number to allow continuous play and very little waiting. I was pleased that the women decided to run their full three rounds of pool play before cumming into a double elimination round.

Thank you players for coming out and making this a successful event. A special thanks to Cristina, Mike, Sam, and ZZ for helping Jeff and I,

The Newbie & Vet tourney is less about results and more about how much fun everyone had. All the Newbies and most of the vets shared that this was a great experience.

4/2/11 Newbie & Vet -

Hey folks, the Newbie Vet tourney is a concept we talked about for years...now that talk has turned into reality...So here is the basic premise (as recommended by fellow TD, Jeff P.) 1. Players divided by experience and relative success. Newbies mean guy/gal who’ve been playing and have a basic understanding (and ability to play doubles) of the game. 2. The following is an example of the format we’ll follow- tourney will be tailored to number of players... At this time we will hold 18 spots for men and 12 spots for the ladies. 3. Divide players into two groups of 9. The 9 “vets” draw a partner, and then into 3 pools of 3, games to 15. In this instance we’ll do the draw 3 times. This means everyone will play 6 games, trading off for a new partner every 2 games. The third round of pool play will be to 21. 4. In this scenario after points are added up the top 6 vets and the top 6 newbies advance. All points are kept because the remaining players draw partners and play in 2 pools of 3, games to 21. The points earned in the first round will be added to those gained by teams in the second round. 5. The top 2 vets and the top 2 newbies advance for a 2 out of 3 final. In the first 6 games a win will be worth 2 points a tie 1 point, and a loss 0. Yes, ties can happen, with a cap at 15, if a team reaches 15 and the opposing team has 14, that team gets one chance to sideout for the tie. The same same goes for games to 21, that is, if the other team has 20, they get one chance to sideout for the tie. Scores from games will be kept as tiebreakers. Second round points will be 4 for a win, 2 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. Clear as mud right...here is what you need to know A. Play at least 6 games with an experienced player, and a lot of play for everyone. It should be interesting and fun B. $10/person prior to 4/2 and $15 day of event (email or text nmzeyaee@gmail.com 259-7317). C. 8 a.m check in, 8:30 start time! D. Scheduled at Sneakerz

3/19 KOB Results, Photos, Video

On a beautiful Albuquerque day, 72 degrees with some clouds and a slight breeze, lots of competitors came out to Sneakerz for the KOB tourney. We had an on-time start, and everyone who was signed up made the tourney and we finished before 5 p.m.. Guaranteed nine games and complimentary custom made sporty Vbunderground hats for everyone encouraged great battles in the final rounds all the way to 1st place and the King of the "Beach" trophy. It may be early in the season but looks like we have plenty of interest, guys are gearing up for the Sandia Classic and players are moving well and mostly in shape. Thanks to everyone who came out to play, helped set up, and the friends and family who arrived to cheer on, make fun off, and have a few laughs with the players. Here are how things concluded and congratulations to: see pics, courtesy of Paul... http:/www.ace-pictures.com/Volleyball/New-Mexico-Tournaments/3192011-KOB-H/16340356_xhYeF#1228415238_Eq3Ha 1st Jorge 2nd Adam 3rd Mike 4th Larry 5th Desi & Taylor 6th Harris & Shane 7th Kameron & Sam 8th Jeff*, Jarrod, Paul 9th Kevin, Randy, ZZ Video/Photo's Coming soon...
