Just when you think you figured it out, we get a new challenge. Fortunately, we are surrounded with people who are willing to work together to make it all fit together. Thanks for continuing to support 'beach' volleyball in ABQ - a couple of last minute changes- a small bump in the road, and we still managed to start at 9 a.m. as and finish before 1:15 p.m.

KOB #2 had a number of returning vets including nine new players (not new to the game) but new to KOB series. The overwhelming response from the group was that they enjoyed the format and plan to play in the next one!!! Woo Hoo...lets keep growing this event.

A big thank you and Congratulation to all the players. I noticed better playing all around...Kudos to Amy for taking the leap to play on a men's net and play hard...Amy stepped it up and won her first pool. A big "way to go" for Aaron and G. for taking their game to the next level. Big props for some of the newer/returning players who tried doubles and KOB for the first time (Mark/Nat/Ryan J.).

See the results attached... and have a great month, see you for

Appreciate the support from all the players who came out to play and watch the first KOB Winter series held at Charlie's new eight court facility. I was impressed with the number of new faces who made their debut to the doubles scene, job well done (told you it would be fun).

A big "thanks" to Charlies for pleasantly surprising me with having all the court lines and antennas set up for five courts when I arrived before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

A flip of the lights, armed with our planned set of brackets (numbers for blind draw), we quickly started as players arrived. It would not be volleyball if we did not have a few last minute surprises (not of the pleasant kind...no shows etc) but we had enough dedicated individuals who came through. A few minor adjustments and we ran the KOB with 20 players who love the game. A near on-time start (9:20 a.m.), we got our warm up and peppering session going and everyone played without a lag for nearly four hours. After facility fees, we paid out 70% of the entry fee and kept 30% for the end of season top points earners...attend all the KOB hint hint...

What went well: Committed players, positive attitude, timely start and finish, lots of volleyball, and mucho interest for the next one scheduled for Sunday, 11/20/11.

What we can improve: Jeff show up with long pants and a jacket at 8:30 a.m. nexts time-shorts and a t-shirt will not cut it in November (thanks for playing through the fever). Everyone, continue to spread the word about KOB event-open to all players novice, intermediate, and 'pro' alike.

VBUG Sandbox Winter Series 2011/2012

New Mexico Volleyball Underground (VBUG) has partnered with Charlie’s Sandbox, for the winter 2011 & Fall of 2012, to provide the VBUG’s Sandbox Winter series.

Last years trip to Denver gave me an opportunity to play with the great folks in the mile high city. I enjoyed playing at the Oasis and the Island so much that we started talking about putting together similar events in Albuquerque.

The challenge was to find a large venue, with lots of courts (4-8 indoor sand courts), that may accommodate indoor sand in the winter. If you are a diehard ‘Volleyballar’ or newer to the game this will certainly be a fun, exciting, and healthy way to spend part of your Sunday.

· Keep your “sand legs” or get new one’s this winter, and only take half your Sunday, and still get to play 9 games guaranteed?
