Albuquerque’s first snow and ‘real’ cold weather was not enough to keep (most) of the dedicated sand volleyballers away. This 4th KOB before first day of winter packed with 24 players. VBUGs KOB is a great way to allow players from different levels, age groups (between 14 and 50 plus years of age this time around), and locations together on one facility to compete. We started the tourney to remember and a moment of silence one of our friends and volleyballer who passed away recently. I pledged to all the players my commitment to remain available for anyone who needs a hand, or a ear to listen to, especially when times are tough and you feel alone.
I was yet again very impressed with everyone’s level of play. Players continue to improve, games are tighter, and all players battle for their chance to get to the top, and the top 5 spots. It was nice to see some players return to town for the holiday’s and stop by to play, and new players like Aiden (14 year old baler) who was by far my choice for the MVP of the day! Watch out ABQ, if this little buddy of mine continues to grow and play volleyball - we will have one incredible player!
Big kudos goes out to Jeff, Adam, and John for trekking through the snow to attend the tournament; Sam for taking my call at 1 a.m. in the morning of the tournament to fill in for a bailer who (will have to pay extra next time), and all other players who support VBUG and continue to do so in 2013.
Way to go to Drew, Aaron, Marcus (making his debut) and Kurtis for playing in the top 4…
